MB is the biggest enemy of the SLR - investigation is on

The SLR is in its final stages of the repair. I decided to write one complete post about it instead of 3-4 short ones. The long one is coming, but before that - I'm starting a full investigation into the Mercedes-Benz support of the SLR as a model.

If you have something to share about your experience with Mercedes-Benz as an SLR owner, please, feel free to contact me however you see fit. Send me a DM on IG or an email: info@theslrgirl.com - I'm here for you.

My personal experience is getting worse by the day. I fear they don't support the SLR anymore. Every time I get in contact with MB, an immediate chaos ensues. They have no idea what they're doing, takes them forever to respond to basic stuff like parts availability. It took them 4 weeks to send a 4cm tensioner from Germany to Bulgaria. 4 weeks!!! I send stuff to LA and they arrive in 2 days! I'm trying to be as respectful as possible, but it looks like Mercedes-Benz is the biggest enemy of the SLR. The deeper I go, the worse it gets. But I will go deeper. There is absolutely no point of theSLRgirl, if I'm not interested in the truth regarding the SLR. I'll get to the bottom of what's going on at MB. I received fresh info from high-level McLaren people that MB has stopped the production of some parts for the SLR. One of them is the OEM alternator, which is why we couldn't find a new one for sale. Because they don't make them anymore. They gave us an estimation of over a year for a new alternator, which I fear is an automated deadline that allowed them to send an offer for the repair. There's a lot to unfold and I'm coming with a lot of questions and Mercedes-Benz might block me or blacklist my number, but fear not. I'm unstoppable when I set my mind on something.

A warning for MB - if you indeed decide to blacklist and block me, I'll only become louder and bolder.

And just to give you another example of why MB is the enemy:

I believe we all watched this video about a guy who doesn't know how carbon-ceramic brakes work. That's a problem on its own - buying a car you don't understand, but what people missed is that Mercedes-Benz ALSO doesn't know how CC brakes work. Their solution - replace them, because why use our brains when we can just replace the brakes. LMAO This is a typical style for operation for all German brands - "replace, don't fix and charge 2x". Yet another reason why I don't vibe with the Germans. McLaren's solution - hard braking and $0. For the sake of the research - the rotors + shoes for the front AND the rear are around 27k USD as of 19.03.2026. A lot, but it's decent for CC brakes. MB sent an offer for 58k just for the rear!! LIKE WTF!!! 2 problems here: 1. They treat SLR owners as if money for us grows on trees. 2. They treat SLR owners as if we can't search part numbers (aka we're dumb). And maybe a 3rd problem - they don't want to bother. Call it a conspiracy, but it seems to be the most likely scenario. Why send these insane offers, if they really want to bother? If they cared about the SLR as they proudly mention on their IG aspirational posts, why treat SLR owners as if they're stupid and without an access to the internet? They want the cherry on top without having to sustain the foundation of the cake. What if it's all intentional?! Hmm, because ... ...who in the right mind is spending 58k on a brake job? I wouldn't. You'd see me cutting custom steel rotors before I give 58k to MB.

And they don't have to touch SLRs in that case. They've been getting away with this for so long, until now. I've spoken to MB people, they seem to be understanding, but I think MB didn't realize what carrying the SLR would mean for them. I don't think they considered a possible renaissance of the 2000s 20 years later. They didn't think of the possibility that people would just be getting into driving the SLR 20 years after the launch.

And it seems more likely MB never thought about the possibility that the SLR will be driven.
