Rampant, visceral, raucous, pure + 760 HP from the factory
Remember when I said “there’s a car coming"?
Make that plural.
Let’s test your car knowledge and see if you can guess my new car from this collage?
It’s not a Ferrari. It’s better. It’s better, because it’s one of my dream cars and the reason why I got a driving licence in the first place, so that I can own and drive one of these one day.
I got a Shelby. I’m a Shelby GT500 owner. OH MY GOD! I’ve waited YEARS to call myself that.
You can take the Murci, Paris, anything really, just leave the Shelby and the GT and I’ll be happy. I mean it. There is no price tag on your dream car. I was picturing a Shelby during my driving licence exam. So, this is monumental.
My Mustang GT is my ride or die. The least problematic sports car to ever exist. So pure and simple, yet so iconic. It puts a smile on my face every time and still makes me feel a little jittery. It certainly helps me pass the food a lot quicker compared to the other cars. Just the thought I’ll be driving the Mustang today makes my heart race. It’s not that the Mustang is scary, it’s that it always makes me feel like I still have some learning to do. And I just completed a high-performance driving course mastering manual RWD cars in extreme conditions. I have a healthy relationship with the Mustang. It puts me in my place and I like this about it. There are cars that will boost your confidence (like the M2 or the AMG S63) so much that you’ll become overconfident and then we all know what’s gonna happen. Not the case with the Mustang. It taught me everything I know about driving.
You would ask why I haven’t bought a Shelby already? That’s a fair question.
My GT was too good of a deal to pass on it. Plus it’s blue. I had to have it. It was purchased from a private seller before all the American cars craze unfolded in Bulgaria. He on the other hand had had it only for a few months (it was a garage queen) until his daughter decided one day to drive it and curbed the wheels. So he decided to sell it. It was the best deal ever.
I took it for a first drive to IKEA to practice the parking. Lol On photos, the dimensions look … interesting. In reality, that hood is loooooong. For good reasons - you get the iconic naturally-aspirated V8 under it that produces thunderous roar. I added the stripes, changed the wheels (obviously), got it detailed and now it has a Borla exhaust that amplifies the iconic roar.
I’ve put over 40k km on it so far and I love it. It’s a brilliant car. A fantastic daily that is living the American dream in Eastern Europe. It’s a sweet car. I can’t say anything bad about it?! Obviously that V8 is thirsty and the fuel tank is small, so visiting gas stations is like a pastime. It consumes tires and the performance does change a lot depending on which brand and tires are on. The interior is exactly what you’d expect from a muscle car. The Mustang is not synonymous with luxury, so no complains about the interior as well. The visibility is something you get used to and when changing lanes I just speed up and take a final look in the mirrors and then I pray. It works every time. You just gotta be the fastest car around when changing lanes lol
I love every quirk and feature (sorry, Doug). I genuinely love everything about this car and what it represents. It reminds me of the M2 a lot when it comes to the cons, but I prefer the Stang any day. The personality, the look, the feel, the sound … unmatched. An absolute icon for a reason.
Do you see where I’m going? I’m too in love with my GT to even consider a Shelby, because I know what that means. A new favourite daily. Of course I’m super excited about getting a dream car, but all the memories with my GT have built a strong bond between us. Essentially, no other car can compete for this spot, ever.
Тhe reality is that the Shelby GT500 will easily become the favourite car in the collection. It’s so absurd that it’s good and it’s so good that it’s absurd. The car is bonkers and that’s why it’s in many people’s dream cars lists. The looks alone - ridiculously sexy.
Speaking of collections, the plan is to have a 3-Stang collection within the collection. One more left - a 1969 Mustang Fastback. All 3 will be repainted in the same shade of blue plus white stripes on top of the paint: a project for when I collect all 3. Now that the M2 hype is over, it’ll need to prove its worth and that it has a place in the collection.
Because when this tire-screaming, head-turning, track-ready, loud monster comes in, every car will need to prove its worth. No car is safe (especially the M2). Whether the M2 will be a keeper, or it’ll be the fastest … to leave the garage - only time will tell.
Full review once the Shelby arrives home.
